Leicester, Stratford-on-Avon and Taunton racecourses join Racecourse Media Group in 2017

Racing UK’s portfolio of quality racing is to be strengthened this year with the addition of live coverage from Leicester, Stratford-on-Avon and Taunton racecourses, who have all joined Racing UK’s parent company Racecourse Media Group.

Leicester Racecourse joins on May 1, while Stratford-on-Avon-on-Avon and Taunton (pictured) racecourses come on board on July 1, and will swell RMG’s portfolio of racecourses to 37 of the 60 tracks in the UK. In 2017, Racing UK will broadcast 766 (from 729) fixtures, which is 51% of the BHA Fixture List.

Richard FitzGerald, CEO of Racecourse Media Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome Leicester, Stratford-on-Avon and Taunton to the RMG family. RMG has added seven courses since 2012 and the extra fixtures further strengthen the Racing UK membership. The quality of the racing at all three courses sits perfectly with Racing UK’s output.

“The move is a clear endorsement of the RMG business model and its collective approach, and reflects the industry’s confidence in the Group, which is 100%-owned by our shareholder racecourses and reinvests all profits in the sport.”

Nick Lees, Chairman of Leicester and Stratford-on-Avon, said, “Racecourse Media Group’s efficient and successful business model will provide many commercial benefits, while Racing UK’s commitment to consistently producing quality output, alongside excellent marketing and promotion of the racecourses and the sport, will further improve our offering.”

Mike Foden, Chairman of Taunton, said: “We are thrilled to be joining RMG and to be in partnership with many other like-minded small independent racecourses, alongside the larger independents and Jockey Club Racecourses. We believe joining the RMG family will ensure Taunton will continue to provide good quality grass roots National Hunt racing with good prizemoney.”

The deal is for all audio-visual rights (pictures and data), with licensed betting offices (LBO) rights for the trio of racecourses forming part of RMG’s five-year agreement with SIS from April 1, 2018. The RMG-SIS partnership will see SIS distribute all RMG racecourses’ audio-visual rights to LBOs across UK and Ireland.
