Racecourse Media Group (RMG), the parent company of Racing TV, and Jockeys Education & Training Scheme (JETS) are offering all jockeys, past and present, the opportunity to partake in the RMG-JETS Traineeship.
The Traineeship, now in its third year, has been reformatted and will now take the form of two five-day programmes over the course of a month later this year (final dates to be confirmed) to include intensive training in the following areas:
• Gallery introduction
• Filming on location
• Racecourse production
• Presenting
• Punditry
Last year’s trainee Mikey Ennis said: “When you put yourself outside of your comfort zone great things can and will happen. This fantastic insight onto this side of racing has really sparked an even stronger interest, not only in the media industry, but in racing as a whole.
“When you give up riding it’s very easy to become cynical about the industry as it can wear you down but I’ve realised that a whole world of opportunities exist in racing media that I wasn’t previously aware of, and I’m really excited about my future in the industry again, almost as much as I was before I became a jockey!
“I think if you have even a slight inclination that any element of this side of racing might be of interest, then absolutely do it and get in touch with RMG.”
the new format, RTV Director of Communications, Seb Vance, said, “We have been delighted to team up with JETS and offer jockeys, past and present, the opportunity to work with the company on various aspects of the media over the last two years.
“We have altered the format of the Traineeship this year, with the focus more on the presenting and punditry elements. We look forward to hearing from as many jockeys as possible.”

The Traineeship is open to all riders who have held a professional licence issued by the BHA (including Apprentice and Conditional) and has had at least one ride on that licence. Dates for the courses will be available shortly, but will factor in the quieter periods of the Jumps and Flat seasons.
