Racecourse Retail Business is the LBO media rights collective for 38 racecourses.
It has been operating from 1 April 2018, a date which signalled the start of RMG’s five-year agreement with SIS for the distribution of its 38 racecourses’ pictures and data to circa 10,000 Licensed Betting Offices (LBOs) in Britain and Ireland.
It also marked the end of the highly-successful Turf TV service and underlines what can be achieved through collective enterprise and ownership of content. The advent of Turf TV levelled the playing field when it came to betting shop rights and Racing would not receive the revenues it does today, but for the creation of Turf TV.
However, the new arrangement brings both enhanced terms and long-term certainty for racecourses and greater data transparency. Better understanding of performance data will enable Racing and bookmakers to focus on improving the sport as a betting product whilst protecting its heritage
Through a combination of data sharing and incentivised licence fee distribution, RMG is confident this collective approach will be of great mutual benefit to both the racing and betting industries.
